Through a fusion of live audience perspective photography with a modern angular typeface, I transformed a conventional SEPTA bus into a captivating art installation. Given the university’s reputation as the “social ivy,” we encountered a unique dilemma—how to effectively market to mass audiences while simultaneously reaching and yielding unique students globally in a visually modern, yet traditional, fashion. In collaboration with Columbus, Ohio branding agency Ologie, we developed a fresh, comprehensive set of branding guidelines geared towards underscoring the unparalleled attributes of the university. The guidelines allowed for depth and variety when creating compelling visual compositions that were ultimately implemented in both digital and physical media. This sample here showcases the components of the search campaign targeting senior high school students. The Chinese Rotunda Gallery at the Penn Museum features irreplaceable relics and artifacts from centuries past. Inspired by the symbolic lotus frequently incorporated in traditional Buddhist art, I crafted a graphic element for the network of permanent museum plaques and panels on display throughout the world-renowned exhibit. The tongue-and-cheek parody pushes the envelope with its eyebrow-raising, morose themes superimposed on toe-tapping musical ditties. Muse Theatre Company, a rising D.C. performing arts collaborative, desired a design that depicted the playful tango between the morbid mystique and humor of the content awaiting the audience. Through this idea, Rishon aimed to refresh their visual identity and logo while remaining rooted in their traditional values. The new logo and identity were developed to retain their core sense of identity, while also appealing to the younger, sophisticated audience of rising entrepreneurs with which Rishon connects. After the launch of the new Penn Admissions brand in 2018, the University was already thinking ahead about how the brand would live in a new, modernized physical space. The new center, located in Claudia Cohen Hall, home to Penn’s College of Arts and Sciences, was transformed into the new Admissions Visitor Center.
